Weekly Korean Episode 53 – Difference between I/Ka (이/가) and eun/neun (은/는)

11 Dec

Difference between 은/는 – 이/가

  • 은/는 – 이/가 is used to work SUBJECT.
  • 을/를 is worked OBJECT.

What is subject and what is object:

Andy ate oranges.
In this, Andy is the subject, ate is the verb, oranges is the object.

In Korean:
앤디가 오렌지를 먹었어요.

But what is the difference??
은/는 and when 가/이 -Emphasisze the noun before (가/이) or before, or emphasize the verb after (를/을)

Joop likes…(emphasizing that Joop likes it)
욥이 좋아합니다
Joop likes…
욥은 좋아합니다. (general)

Oh, I get it. In one case you are saying It is Andy who likes oranges. In another case you are saying simply Andy likes oranges. In the first case, you’re indicating emphasis or discovery, and in the second case you’re simply introducing a fact.
